Have stayed at Russ Hill myself two years ago. We found it ok for a one night Gatwick stopover and I have to say it is cheap but have since had better experiences in some of the other, slightly smaller Gatwick Hotels. Last time we flew from Gatwick we stayed at Ifield Court and we got a preety good deal booking through these these guys:

Compare and book Gatwick Hotels with parking packages at www.gatwickhotelswithparking.com

Does what it says on the tin.

Hi Joanne

Your comments really gave me some things to think about.

I've never seen parking spaces for main car parks on ebay, due to many of them operating on a no amendment clause and number plate recognition, but your other point is extremely valid.

What makes this more interesting is with the impending sale of London Gatwick and the potential future increase to the size of the airport to cover the future increase of passengers, parking will become harder to find. However, many parking companies will take this into account and new plans to integrate public transport (such as integrated rail / air hubs) will hopefully negate some of this increase.

Prices will only rise if supply is shortened. Holiday companies realise this when selling their holidays. If there is lots of spaces, the prices drop, so instead of selling cheap, they reduce the number of holidays to push prices. Airports will be the same, and you will find car parks opening and shutting to keep this balance and the costs static.

Costs are at their lowest for almost 20 years, so if you are planning to go away, go and treat yourself to one of the premium services, whilst they are cheap or indeed just enjoy the prices whilst they last.

Andy

Hi there

I had a good look at this site, and agree it does look good and the prices are fair.

However, I could not see anywhere on the site that actually told you where the cars would be parked whilst you were away. I have heard many horror stories and even a BBC documentary regarding meet and greet services.

In my mind I would prefer a company that openly showed where the cars were parked, so that I knew they were fine.

On the Compare Gatwick Parking website, there are some meet and greet services that do not list the locations of the car storage, but I would always go for ones I know where the car is. However that is only my personal choice and people should book where they prefer.

Hi there

I know many people who have stayed at the Russ Hill, and have heard many conflicting stories regarding this hotel.

I could give a long list of people who have enjoyed their stay, and alternatively I can also list people who did not.

One of the many issues was the decor and aged look of the rooms. However, as far as I am aware, many of the rooms were re-decorated and upgraded to look better. The hotel still offers great value for money, think you just have to remember not to compare it to hotels which are double the price. It is still a budget hotel, although from what I hear, it is getting better. I would not cancel on the hearing of otheres reviews, again, as these are mixed I would still visit (it's only one night) and see for yourself. And indeed, I would like to hear what you think too.

If you do still use it, please drop me a line

Thank you for your response to the blog

I would really love to hear more about the cruise and how you found it. My blog was focused really on the SS Emerald, no longer being under a British charter and effectively removed from the UK travel market. I understand Louis cruises are marketing her this year under their own cruise company.

However, as far as I am aware, under the SOLAS 2010 laws, SS The Emerald will no longer be able to sail without some serious modifications, and I am not sure if Louis Cruise Lines will pay for this considering the age and size of the ship.

Other examples were the MV Topaz, which I believe was sold to the Japanese education department to become a peace ship, and was sailed to the Olympics in Athens before being abandoned.

However, as I have said, I would love to hear more of your cruise. If it was more accessible to the British cruise market, I wouold love to travel on her again.
