The Vulcan isn’t flying yet, but there’s still hope

June 30, 2008

So, there’s still no news from the CAA regarding the flight status of XH558, however, the operating company have been running low on funds.  This has been due to extra test flights and other expenses.

It was getting so close that the irony of having an airworthy Vulcan but no money to fly her was very much on everyones mind.

However, where there’s hope there is sometimes an answer.  The answer to our lovely delta lady came in the shape of Eddie Forrester,  Managing Director of Aerobytes.

Mr Forrester, already a supporter of the Vulcan, has contributed an undisclosed sum, which will now see the Vulcan safe till the end of the display season.  By which time, a large sponsor will hopefully want to contribute to such a large crowd puller.

We all now have our fingers crossed that the CAA are able to reply before Waddington, so that the public, who have also contributed so much to the Vulcan’s survival, can see the lady perform again.

The Thomson Emerald

June 25, 2008

It’s not long now.  The jewel of the Med, the Thomson Emerald will finally leave the Thomson fleet.

As you can probably tell, I am still annoyed about this.

I am definately on the last two weeks of it’s cruise life.  I am even happier that my Greek friend has returned to the ship for the last year, after a short period of time on the Calypso, so I will enjoy myself even more.

If anyone knows what Lois Cruise Lines plan to do with her after Thomson’s charter finishes, I would love to know.

Also, if anyone else is travelling on the 17th October for two weeks, let me know.  Also, if you want cheap car parking at the airport, you can always come to me to book some.

Still no news on the Vulcan

June 25, 2008

The Vulcan is still poised ready for flight, but still there is no news.  The team at Bruntingthorpe, who have worked for years to reach this point, must still wait on the CAA to say whether the permit to fly will be granted and if amny flying can be done in the interim.

The team still want to be present at the RAF Waddington International Air Show on 5th-6th July, however, this will only be possible if the CAA grant the permit to fly.

The trust still also need to raise money to keep her flying, once the permit is approved, so if you have not donated, please consider it.

Whilst we are waiting here’s some youtube footage from a user showing the how Waddington used to look in the 60’s with a full flight of Vulcans.

And you can always visit the tvoc website for more info.

Birdstrike on a Thomson 757 at Manchester Airport

June 25, 2008

What can I say, this is an amazing piece of filmwork, plus excellent feed through of air traffic control chat.

The pilots and all staff are so calm and the plane circles and lands. I am afraid of flying but watching the confidence and preparation that the crew show, it makes me feel happier.

Thank you for 27 supersonic years

June 20, 2008

I can only presume this was done out of guilt.

It is however, a wonderful film about the 27 years of service that Concorde gave this country.  They in fact mention what an icon she is, all we need to do is get them to let one out, to stretch her wings like the graceful swan she is.

We have this to loook forward to soon

June 11, 2008

If the Vulcan passes its CAA certification, we can expect this sort of display from the Vulcan.

Remember though, she will only remain flying whilst  the TVOC receive donations and funding, so dig deep and experience the thrill of the only flying Vulcan, perform again.

There are two parts to this video, shot by avro698, and posted on Youtube.  The display was at Wroughton in 1992.

have fun

sex and the city

June 11, 2008

So come on, can someone actually tell me what the score is with the hype over this film.

I actually sat down and watched an episode.  I thought to myself, before I moan about it, let’s watch an entire episode before saying anything.

Well, some of you will have seen this episode.  Basically, the one obsessed with shoes, goes to someones babies birthday party, and has to take her shoes off (they are worth over $400) .  When she leaves someone has stolen her shoes.  Over the episode the girl keeps going back about her shoes and the mother on the child calls her obsessed and without a life.

Finally it ends where she marries herself and asks the mother to buy her the shoes as a wedding present.

The end

Well, the whole thing had no substance, was basically interspersed with sexual references.

Now, I am not  a prude, but I thought if it had been a programme based around guys doing the same thing, surely there would be complaints.

Oh well, but I can assure you, I am not going to see the film

The Vulcan on Monday 9th June taking off

June 11, 2008

Thanks to the fans at Bruntingthorpe, on the constant watch for the latest events with the Vulcan, they have now published a video of the test flight take off.

The real shame is you cannot hear the roar as she takes off, but I am sure you will appreciate this just as well.

Sarah Jessica Parker Looks Like A Horse blogsite

June 10, 2008

I am shocked to have found this site.

I found it quite offensive, however, after a while of reading it, I came to see it for what it really was, an outrageous attempt to grab as much online space as possible.

It probably is successful, even I am now promoting it by writing about it here, a big hand clap to the media mogul who thought of it.  Well done.
